Depending on the whims of Mother Nature, Kamloops' Canada celebrations could make the move to Hillside Stadium.
Cara Graden, arts, culture and heritage co-ordinator for the city, said the final call on whether to shift the event from Riverside Park will be made on Wednesday, June 27, based on river levels at that time.
"We won't be cancel;ing the event at all," she said.
"I'm hoping that it will settle down by Monday and start heading back and getting lower again. That's what we're hoping for."
The B.C. River Forecast Centre has indicated the South Thompson River may rise to levels last seen during? 1999 ? when Canada Day celebrations were shifted from Riverside Park to the Kamloops Exhibition Association grounds ? and could get as high as the record flood of 1948.
As of today (June 21), the boat launch at the park is shut down, many of the paths and walkways are barricaded, and the city has asked the public to stay out of the area.
